Panama Has a Thriving Sex Trade.

Though the majority of Panamanians are Catholic, sex for hire is not a taboo in Panama. Strip clubs, call girls and brothels are very common throughout Panama.

Brothels vary depending on where they are located in Panama. Panama City offers high end strip clubs and brothels. Prices are also higher in the city. The quality of the “talent” is usually higher in the city as well. If you are looking for an upper class experience, Panama City is your best bet. However, there are strip clubs and brothels throughout the country.

Last weekend I ventured out to two such brothels located in Las Tablas, in the Azuero peninsula. The two brothels are located across the street from one another, just outside of Las Tablas on the road to Pedasi. I would venture to say that nearly 90% of the girls working in both establishments were Colombian.

The first brothel my friends and I went to is on the right hand side of the road as you are heading out of Las Tablas. Campo Alegre is not unlike any other cantina in Panama’s interior provinces. It’s darkly lit, not very clean and of course there was loud tipico music blasting from the jukebox. The main difference between this “bar” and others in town is that I was the only female in the bar that wasn’t there to make some money.

The hookers working the bar were very provocatively dressed and would wander around the bar asking the male patrons if they wanted to have a “good time”. The ones that weren’t actively seeking sex were perched on stools near the jukebox looking extremely bored. When a guy would say the magic words the girl was waiting to hear, she would take him behind a curtain to one of the many rooms, for about 15 minutes. The night I was there, the turnover rate was quite high. Often a girl would be out in the bar for only a few minutes and would be back behind the curtain in no time. Once a girl would take a guy behind the curtain, she would quickly reappear to pass the bartender the fee which has to be paid upfront. She would then retreat to her 15 minute “boyfriend”.

Across the street is a similar brothel called La Loma. La Loma is a little bit classier than Campo Alegre. The tables were a bit nicer and the girls were MUCH more attractive than at Campo Alegre. I did think it was odd that the girls at Campo Alegre were busier than those at La Loma, considering the La Loma girls were much better looking. At La Loma I was seated at a table where I could see behind the curtain where the men were being taken. I was surprised to see that the men are taken in to the girl’s room, where she lives 24/7. I didn’t think seeing your hot date’s dirty laundry laying on the floor was very appealing, but I guess that doesn’t really matter to the guys that are there for sex. It is kind of gross to think when her shift is over, the girl goes to sleep on a bed that has hosted probably 300 men.

Both bars serve 60 cent beers and the fee for 15 minutes with one of the women is $12 at both locations as well. As one Panamanian friend of mine likes to say, “With only 15 minutes you have to work like a Singer sewing machine to get the job done in time”.
