Gaming & Services Closing Doors at Seven of its Slot Machine Halls
story La Prensa
Gaming & Services de Panama has been given three months to close seven slot machine halls following the government's cancelation of their operating licenses. The halls are located in Las Tablas, Changuinola, Bugaba, Penonomé and Panama City.
Giselle Brea, executive secretary of the Gaming Control Board, said that Gaming & Services de Panama will sign over the contract to the state Tuesday in confirmation of its cancelation. It will continue to operate 12 gaming halls throughout the country.
The official clarified that Cirsa, the Spanish company under which Gaming & Services operates, has no way of legally appealing the government's decision since its member companies began operations without complying with regulations. Moreover, the companies refused to disclose the identity of its shareholders, particularly those who had profited from a business that received a direct concession to operate gaming halls from the Ernesto Pérez Balladares administration.
Brea said the scandal enveloping the Gaming & Services of Panama and Lucky Games has led to the investigation of two other companies in the gambling industry: Thunderbird and Coderé. No further details were given.
