Wind Farm Project Takes Flight in Colón
Story by La Prensa
A novel wind farm project created by Panamanian inventor Antonio Clement as an alternative energy source for the Cristóbal and Piña communities of the Colón province has captured the interest of residents there.
Cristóbal resident Dalia Rodríguez said that residents are keen on having the windmills installed permanently in the region, since the wind power generated has already helped to reduce electricity costs.
Clement explained that the Energy Environmental Engineering, the company collaborating with him on the project, decided to test the mills in the windy Chagres district of Colón so as to convince residents there of the system's advantages.
If approved for permanent installation, the windmills would be located in Sherman, Coco Solo, Piña, Isla Margarita and other coastal areas.
Energy Environmental Engineering is still awaiting approval of the project from the country's chief environmental agency, ANAM, since the future wind farm sites lie within nature preserves.
